PUB DEF EXCLUSIVE
On Tuesday, the Judiciary Committee of the Missouri House of Representatives conducted a public hearing in the State Capitol on a bill that seeks to reform the use of eminent domain in the state. One of those testifying against the bill was Barb Geisman, St. Louis City's Deputy Mayor for Development.
State Rep. John Burnett (D-40), from Kansas City, asked Geisman why the St. Louis City government seems to use eminent domain much more "willy-nilly" than K.C.
State Rep. Michael Vogt (D-66), from south St. Louis, asked Geisman about the Ronnoco Coffee Company and whether she feels that the Board of Aldermen uses blight and eminent domain powers responsibly.

"we spend millions of dollars cutting grass, cutting weeds, and tearing down buildings"
"you have a problem in stl, that we do not in kansas city"
"potential that an alderman can abuse the proceedures"
"some things should be done...in this bill...apprasial by lisenced apprasial...appropriate for a person who is condemned gets proper notice...owner gets time to move out instead of five days"
"potential for abuse...this bill corrects the potential"
I do not understand why Barbara is against the bill, because she only did a bunch of doubletalk.
We do not like the bill, yet this bill corrects the potential abuse.
WHAT are you saying!

Ms. Geisman,
If you and the Slay folks are seriously trying to fight problem property owners and slumlords like you said in this video, why haven't you guys sold off all of the LRA's properties to individuals? You all have had years, and you've proven that you're incapable of doing anything to improve even SOME of these properties, let alone all of them. It's time to sell!
And, um, with all your power, why is Blairmont and its cohorts still at large slumming up my neighborhood and other parts of the Near North Side? Hm?
